Just a little note to let you all know (in case you didn't notice already) I changed my blog name to match my Twitter name. Seemed more Cohesive :)
Onto the Cupcake Marathon!!!!
Before anyone starts yelling at me, this picture was a joke, lol! I really did not eat that many cupcakes! I actually only indulged in 1 mini cupcake *cue applause!*
Sadly I did not finish the Cupcake Marathon, despite my best efforts. The day before the Cupcake Marathon started my kids, some friends and I went bouldering. Sometime, either during the hike or falling while bouldering, I landed on my ankle wrong. Didn't notice at the time, and didn't notice it until I went for my run the next night. It started hurting, so I only got 1 mile(3/14) in. Decided to rest it for a day and the next day I tried again, just 1 more mile(3/16) before I couldn't do anymore. At that time I decided to RICE my ankle. Gave it 2 days rest, iced, elevated the whole sha-bang. It felt a little better and I still didn't think it was anything serious since the only time it hurt was when I ran. I went for a run again and got a whole 3.1 miles(3/19) in! Albeit slow, I still did it! Kept up the ice, elevation routine. Felt better so I hiked 2 miles (no proof though for Cupcake Marathon) and went bouldering Sunday.
Week 2 already seemed to be going better, and then to make it even better, I got 4.64 miles(3/21) in on Monday! First time I ever ran that long on the treadmill. Gave my ankle another rest day and Wednesday was gorgeous so I had to get outside. Got 3.07 mile run(3/23) and picked my kids up from the sitter and we all walked the .34 miles home together.
The next day I tried to run on the treadmill, still had quite a few miles to finish for the cupcake marathon. Right away the ankle was funky... I decided to walk since I needed the mileage. Had to walk at a 5% incline, cause it hurt if the incline was any higher or lower than that. Strange...
Gave it one more rest day... At this point I started feeling like I wasn't going to finish. My first "race" and I couldn't even finish? Felt pretty embarrassed of myself. I decided I was going to finish one way or another even if I had to walk the rest of the miles! Put in a movie the next night (Super Troopers!) and hopped on the treadmill.
Took the first 4 miles slowly... Was feeling pretty good.
hehe, I love Super Troopers!
The last 2 miles didn't feel the greatest :(
As I hobbled upstairs from the gym I decided I was done... Sat down and iced and elevated the ankle. I decided I didn't want to hurt my ankle any worse than it already was and it should probably be rested for longer than a day or 2 at a time. I hate feeling like a "quitter" but I guess it's better to quit from an injury rather than laziness. How's that for looking at the glass half full, lol?!?! My total Mileage came to 19.2 miles (21.2 if you count the undocumented hike). All in all I'm pretty happy, I wanted to increase my weekly mileage and I definitely was successful at that!
A big thank you to Jason at Cook Train Eat Race for putting this together! So much fun!!! I'd definitely love to do this again :)
